BENNINGTON — The Bears had four players in double figures in a decisive 61-33 home win over Caney on Thursday.

Ryan Lott led the charge with 25 points. Three Bears scored 10 points each: Tad Holt, Chance Haislip and Isaac Perez.

Bennington Coach John Talley also credited point guard Josh Hawkins for distributing the ball to the scorers. He said Hawkins doesn’t score much but “he sure gets a lot of assists.”

“He does an excellent job of running the offense, especially as a freshman,” Talley said. “It frees up (Chance) Haislip to do more things.”

Garrett Green led Caney’s effort with 10 points.

Bennington improves to 5-1 on the season. The Bears (Class B No. 19) will visit Springer tonight. It will be one of the biggest tests of the early season as the Cardinals (Class B No. 15) are 6-0.

The Bennington Lady Bears won a dramatic 44-43 decision over Caney when Harlie Heflin drained a baseline jumper with two seconds remaining, according to the Bennington coaching staff. The Lady Bears are now 3-3 on the season.
