A Denison woman arrested after a chase last week has been charged with using her automobile as a weapon.

Katie Jean Wise, 23, was charged Tuesday with felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and eluding police, plus misdemeanor charges of driving without a license, failure to pay taxes due to state and speeding.

She was arrested Jan. 9 after Calera Police Officer Keith Barfield tried to pull her over for an expired tag. According to an affidavit, the driver, later identified as Wise, would not stop and continued driving southbound on Highway 69/75.

A dispatcher notified Colbert Police Officer David Boes, and according to the affidavit, Wise slowed her vehicle down when she she the patrol car. The affidavit states that Wise used her Lincoln SUV to strike Boes’ patrol car in the rear and driver’s side.

Her vehicle then entered Grayson County, Texas, where Denison Police joined in the pursuit. The affidavit states that she then crashed the SUV into a wooded area and fled on foot. Boes, who was still involved in the chase, caught and handcuffed her after a foot chase.

According to the affidavit, Wise said she did not stop because she was scared and did not have a driver’s license. A Denison officer then found a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle and he said, “this is the reason she was running.”

She was booked into the Grayson County Jail, and according to the affidavit, she is being charged their with possession of methamphetamine. Officer Boes was treated at Texoma Medical Center for neck pain.

In other crimes, Dana Sherain McKinney, 34, Platter, was charged Tuesday with three counts of assault and battery upon a peace officer. She is accused of biting Deputy Aubrey Stanfield on his right index finger and wrist, plus kicking him in the stomach, and also biting Deputy Joey Tucker on his right forearm.

Deputies arrested McKinney on Jan. 14 when they were dispatched to a Platter Road residence about a protective order violation. The affidavit states McKinney was inside the home when deputies arrived. Deputies tried to take her into custody and when she resisted, Tucker warned that he would use his pepper spray. She continued resisting despite two bursts of pepper spray, and she punched, kicked and bit both deputies before she was handcuffed.

After booking McKinney into jail, both deputies went to the emergency room to be treated for bite wounds

Durant Police arrested a Coleman man after questioning him while he was walking at 2:09 a.m. on Jan. 12. According to an affidavit, Patrolman Logan Prather saw a man and woman walking on South 13th Avenue and he stopped to ask what they were doing.

A man later identified as Love appeared intoxicated, according to the affidavit, and Logan could smell an odor of “raw marijuana.”

The affidavit states that Love failed a sobriety test, so he was arrested and handcuffed. Prather then asked, “Where is your weed at?” Love then told the officer to check a pocket on his sweatshirt.

Police said Love possessed eight ounces of marijuana, 19 hydrocodone pills and $2,530 in cash. He was booked into jail. According to the affidavit, Love was within 2,000 feet of Robert E. Lee Elementary School at the time of his arrest.

Sheriff’s deputies have also investigated several thefts recently. Harrold Townley told Deputy John Ray Haislip that someone burglarized his shop building in the 1300 block of Sexton Road and stole two tackle boxes and two saws.

Deputy Tim Harwood investigated the burglary of Chasity Hanson’s residence on Red Bud Lane in Mead. Hanson said she was in the process of moving and that someone broke in and stole a plastic tote containing a video game system, plus 10 video games.
