Three Durant Lady Lion softballers Colby Holder, Kenzi Clapp and Kailyn Ward sign thier letters of intent on Tuesday afternoon with Murray State College. These three players will be missed in the Lady Lions line up. Holder was the big bat for the team, Clapp played center field and brought a high level energy and competitiveness and Ward was the anchor in pitching circle.
“We are going to miss them on and off the field. Their leadership was tremendous, for the two years that I coach them,” said Lady Lions head softball coach Aaron Mullens, “Colby can flat out hit, Ward was three year started as pitcher and we are losing Kenzi in center field, that means we lost up the middle and a power bat. But I’m very proud that they have the opportunity to improve themselves both academically and athletically.”
The girls are already familiar with MSC head coach Brent Shaw, he coach them when he was the Lady Lions softball coach. His knowledge of the players made it an easy choice for him to recruit them to his team.
“I coach all three of them when they were sophomores, they have a lot of talent. I feel Kailyn Ward is one of the best pitchers in this area. I think she will step in contribute early for us. Kenzi Clapp is a center fielder, she is fast and is a slapper at the plate. She is really competitive and you can see that when she plays. I watch Colby Holder last year and she can just kill the ball and if she continues to hit the ball hard, she will find a place to play for us.”
