The sheriffs’ office arrested two men late Thursday morning after investigating a tip about a methamphetamine lab.

According to an affidavit by Deputy John Haislip, Detective John Bates received information that a man was making methamphetamine at his home on Highway 70E, north of Midway Road.

Sheriff Ken Golden dropped Undersheriff Kevin Nave and Deputy Haislip off on Midway Road and according to the affidavit, they observed two men in a truck, who then began driving across the pasture.

The affidavit states that the truck then went southbound on 70E and Golden began chasing the truck. An occupant began throwing baggies out of the window and then dumped a large amount of a green, leafy substance. The driver then turned the truck around and drove back to the house.

Golden pulled in behind them and ordered the two men out. According to the affidavit, a bag believed to contain marijuana was found in a jacket pocket that was inside the truck and a methamphetamine pipe containing residue was found down the the road.

Detective Bates spoke to one of the men, identified as Richard Kellum, and asked him about a methamphetamine lab in a shop building. Kellum, according to the affidavit, denied there was a lab in the shop and he said he would show officers.

A search of the room turned up another methamphetamine pipe, the affidavit states, and it appeared methamphetamine had been made in the room at some point, although nothing was found to prove it had been made recently.

Kellum and Michael Don Wright were arrested for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, eluding police, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. The District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the report to determine charges.

In other, unrelated drug arrests, Jeffery Brian Remshardt, 27, Durant, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was charged following an investigation by Durant Police and the Bryan County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force.

The affidavit states that police received information that Remshardt was receiving illegal drugs through the mail and the subsequent investigation revealed a package containing marijuana was mailed to Durant. The package was delivered to Remshardt’s residence and a subsequent search revealed it contained 4.8 ounces of marijuana.

According to the affidavit, Remshardt said he called someone in Colorado and asked if he would send him marijuana since it was easily obtainable in that area.

Police also made another drug arrest this week. O’Keffa Luwayne Thompson, 46, Durant, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Additional details on that arrest were not available.
