The Durant basketballers braved the winter weather on Tuesday and made way to play Chickasha Chicks. The Lions struggled against the Chicks and loss 71-44 and the Lady Lions cold shooting doomed them to a 68-34 loss.
Boys:
The Lions and the Chicks fought tooth-and-nail for the most part in the first period and the game was tied at 17. Zac Cater Jalen Harris each had 6 points in the period. Then in second period the Lions’ shooting failed them.
Chickasha began to pull away from the Lions in the second period as they outscored the Lions 16-to-3 and Chickasha had a comfy 33-20 lead at the half.
Lions came out of half time on fire with Tyler Stovall and Blake Wilson both hitting 3-pointers and with Cater’s 4 points. However, the Lions couldn’t get stops and Chickasha match every point and the Lions trailed 48-36 heading into the final frame.
Cold shooting by the Lions in the fourth period helped Chickasha to runaway with game as the Lions only scored 8 points to Chickasha’s 13 points and the Lions record fell to 6-18 on the year.
Zac Cater led all scorers with 12 points, Tyler Stovall 9 points, Jalen Harris 8 points, Blake Wilson had 5 points.
The Lions return home this Friday to play Duncan for Durant’s senior night.
Girls:
It was another roller coaster hide for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions began game the with some offensive rhythm and matched Chickasha shot-for-shot and trailed 14-10 at the end of the first period.
Chickasha offense was unstoppable in the second period as they went 14-of-19 from the field as the Lady Lions couldn’t find the bucket and score only 2 points. By the end of the first half the Lady Lions commented 13 turnovers and the Chickasha took full advantage. Durant trailed 31-12 at the half.
The Lady Lions couldn’t find the fire they had in the first period and Chickasha went on to dominated the second half as they outscored the Lions 33-22 in the next two quarters and Lady Lions fell 68-34. The Lady Lions record drops to 2-15 on the season.
The Lady Lions return home this Friday to play Duncan for Durant’s senior night.
