KIOWA - The Achille Eagles have advanced to the Area round of the playoffs by winning two straight basketball games over the weekend.
On Friday, Achille bounced back from a loss to Wright City by eliminating Smithville 69-50. Austin Beene turned in one of the best individual stat sheets in the state with 34 points and 17 rebounds. Bradley McKnight had 25 points.
On Saturday, Achille defeated the host Kiowa Cowboys to claim the regional consolation trophy. The Eagles now advance to play the loser bwteeen Weleetka and Stuart at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester.
