Calera, Ok. - Calera Bulldogs hosted it’s Red River Classic on Thursday. The three day event began at 10 a.m. and ended at 11:30 p.m. In the first round: the Colbert Leopards got the baseball event started with a 12-0 run rule win over Ector. Calera fell to Stonewall 8-2, Caddo Bruins beat Rock Creek 4-2 and Tushka beat Sam Rayburn. In the next round: Boswell beat Stonewall 11-10 and Caddo took down Sopher 8-2.
Today’s games featured in the losers bracket: Ector v. Calera at 10 a.m., Rock Creek v. Sam Rayburn at 12 p.m.. The winners of those games will play Stonewall and Sopher. In the winners bracket: Boswell v. Colbert at 6 p.m. and Caddo v. Tushka at 8 p.m.
Colbert v. Ector:
It took only two innings of work for the Colbert Leopards to to put away Ector, 12-0. Colbert’s pitcher Chris Roberts threw for 2 innings, struck out 6, one walk and didn’t allow a hit. Caleb Shoemake went 2-for-3 and a double, Presron Rice went 2-for-2 with two steals, Cade Carter came up big with a 3 run homerun and James Hair hit a 2 RBI double.
Colbert has begun the season with a 2-1 record. Colbert plays Boswell today at 6 p.m.
Calera v. Stonewall:
Calera was down to Stonewall Longhorns 2-1 until the top of the fourth inning when Stonewall began to pull away for a 8-2 win.
With the game still in the balance in the fourth inning, Stonewall began to chip away at Calera. Stonewall was gifted two baserunners to begin the inning. Then a sac-fly and throwing error brought home two runs and the Longhorns led 4-1.
Stonewall would put up two more runs in the sixth inning on a RBI double and fielder’s choice and the Stonewall led 6-1.
Calera would add a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Conner Hamilton got on base with a single and Rylie Barton brought him home on a sac-fly. But the Longhorns would post two more run and won 8-2.
Calera plays Ector today at 10 a.m.
Rock Creek v. Caddo:
It was defensive game between Rock Creek Mustangs and the Caddo Bruins. The Bruins prevailed with a 4-2 victory.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when the Bruins broke the ice. Jacob Argo ran out a infield single, then Tanner Grace hit a RBI single to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
Caddo would add another run in the third inning. Jack Wright got on base with a double and Austin Springer would bring him home on a infield single. Bruins led 2-0.
Rock Creek bounced back in top of the fourth inning. Nash Hestily got on base, then teammate Cameron Hammond knocked him in with a RBI double. Then Rock Creek tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth ining when Zach Cook got on base and then Dave Dill hit a fly ball that was dropped and Cook ran home for the score.
Caddo would put the game to rest in the sixth inning with 2 runs scored. Caddo’s Grace got on base and then Jack Wright hit a sac-fly for an RBI. Then Wyatt Wright scored on a wild pitch for a 4-2 win over Rock Creek.
Boswell v. Stonewall:
The game was full offensive power and it was neck-to-neck all the way through game.
By the third inning the Boswell had a slim 4-3 lead. Then in the fourth Stonewall took a 5-4 lead after a RBI double and a fielder’s choice.
Boswell would expole for six runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Blaine Brown would score of a RBI sac-fly by Lane Smith. Logan Dill would cross home plate after a Dusty Belvine RBI single. Belvine would score on a wild pitch. Blake Schultz would drive in Tracy Brown. Then B. Brown would up again and knocked a 2 RBI double to give Boswell a 10-5 lead.
However, Stonewall came back in the fifth inning with two runs and cut into Boswell’s lead 10-7. Then in the eleventh hour Stonewall tied the at 10-10 in the top of the seventh inning. With the game on the line Boswell answered back.
With a baserunner at second base, B. Brown hit a into the infield, but a bad throw to first brought the baserunner home for the win.
Caddo v. Sopher:
The last game of the night began at 9:30 p.m. between Caddo and Sopher. Caddo came out on top in night cap, 8-2.
Sopher drew first blood in and scored off a throwing error. But Caddo bounced back and took a 2-1 lead and never looked back. Tanner Grace and Peyton Joines both cross the plate on wild pitches for Caddo.
The game stayed 2-1 until the fifth inning when Sopher tied the at 2 apiece. Then Caddo took a 3-2 lead when Patrick Joines crossed home plate on a wild pitch.
Caddo would put the game away in the sixth inning scoring five runs. Argo scored on a wild pitch. Josh Ringle and Austin Springer scored on Tanner Grace 2 RBI single. Then W. Wright scored on a wild pitch to finish off Sopher’s night.
