A Durant man has been charged with assault and battery upon a police officer after authorities said he hit and shoved a sheriff’s deputy.

Gary Dean Reynolds, 45, was charged Thursday. He is accused of striking Deputy Vinny Cacace in the head and also shoving him in the chest.

He was arrested Wednesday after deputies and a Durant officer responded to an altercation Wednesday on Roberts Drive east of Durant.

According to the sheriff’s office, Reynolds charged the deputy and a scuffle ensued that ended with the use of pepper spray.

In other crime news, two people have been charged with drug crimes this week. Charles Edward Sartor, 55, Weatherford, Texas, is charged with unlawful delivery of a narcotic.

He was charged following an investigation by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. An affidavit states that Sartor sold two grams of methamphetamine in the parking lot of a Durant business in January.

Ayanna Breanne Jackson, 22, Durant, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

She was charged after a suspicious package was received at the Durant Post Office. A postal employee requested a police K-9 to sniff the package and according to an affidavit by Durant Police Sgt. Jesse Petty, the dog “alerted” to the suspicious package which had been shipped from Los Angeles, Calif., and was addressed to Jackson in Durant.

The package was delivered, according to the affidavit, and a Durant narcotics officer then knocked on the door. A woman identified as Jackson opened the door, and the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana.

Police obtained a search warrant later that day and according to the affidavit, officers found four baggies containing a green, leafy substance that weighed a total of 140 grams. Upon questioning, Jackson admitted to ordering the package for a cost of approximately $1,200, the affidavit states.
