James A. Hurst was born on Wednesday, February 25, 1920 in Leonard, Oklahoma to Perry and Eular Belle (Hughes) Hurst and passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 15 days.

After graduation from high school James married Lena Mae Cobb on December 23, 1941, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They moved with their family to Bryan County 47 years ago and he worked as a Service Station attendant until his retirement. He was of the Baptist Faith and he dearly loved his family, friends and he enjoyed working in his yard and garden.

James was preceded in death by his parents Perry and Eular Belle Hurst; wife Lena Mae Hurst and brother Odis Hurst.

James is survived by his children; Wanda Beach and husband Jerry of Okmulgee, OK, Carl Hurst and wife Bobbie of Okmulgee, OK, Donnie Hurst of Durant, OK, James Hurst and wife Sharon of Sapulpa, OK, Joy Murphy and husband James of Lawton, OK, David Hurst and wife Marva of Belton, TX, Jerry Hurst and Debra of Winona, TX, Ruth Trower of Denison, TX and Ricky Hurst and wife Ann of Denison, TX; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother Buddy Hurst of Okmulgee, OK; sister Minnie Williams of Okmulgee, OK and numerous other family and friends.

Services to celebrate James’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Mead Baptist Church with Bro. Kerry Groce officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Jimmy Hurst, Raymond Hurst, Casey Hurst, Shane Hurst, Keenon Hurst, Kyle Hurst, Bobby Hurst and Alan Hurst serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Hurst and Levi Duncan. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 PM.

Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, Durant.
