William Erwin Nix a resident of Calera, Oklahoma passed from this life in Plano, Texas on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the age of 71. He was born to Garland E. and Mary Sue (Melton) Nix in Roberta, Oklahoma on September 30, 1940. Erwin married Judy Carter in Calera, Oklahoma on May 15, 1964.

Erwin was a retired charter member of the Calera Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Calera Young Farmers and attended the Calera Methodist Church. Erwin worked for the Katy Railroad (MKT) in Denison, Texas for 23 years and later went on to work for the Texas Northeastern Railroad in Sherman, Texas. He loved camping and working with his cattle. Erwin enjoyed visiting with his friends over a cup of coffee at the Kwik Chek. He loved people and never met a stranger.

Mr. Nix is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; daughters, Sherrie Varner and husband James of Calera, Oklahoma and Relita Cayton and husband Terry of Calera, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Lindsay Roberts and husband Dustin of Durant, Oklahoma, Emily Valles of Calera, Oklahoma, Chad Varner and wife Lauren of Caddo, Oklahoma, Kori Varner of Durant, Oklahoma, Destiny Condor of Durant, Oklahoma and Carter Cayton of Calera, Oklahoma; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Carter of Kingsland, Texas; aunt, Martha McHale of Waurika, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, John Henson of Bells, Texas; sister-in-law, Beverly Nix of Denison, Texas; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Mary Sue Nix; sister, Jeanna Roesler and husband Lou; brother, Frank Nix; sister, Betty Henson; mother and father-in- law, A.L. and Sybil Carter.

Family Hour will be Monday, July 16, 2012 7-8:00 P.M. at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Calera, Oklahoma with Rev. Jenn Kellogg and Donnie Hyde officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Lynn Jackson, Junior Doughty, Terry King, Gerald Fraze, Bobby Harvey and J.D. Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Bailey, Poncho Bailey, Joe Barrett, Bob Rogers, Butch Scalf, Joe Brown, Larry Young, Earl Jackson and the members of the Calera Volunteer Fire Department, Joe Brown, Larry Young and Earl Jackson.
