James Dancer a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the age of 83 years and 15 days. He was born in Justin, Texas to Dudley and Bessie (Gilbreath) Dancer on Christmas Day, December 25, 1929. James married Mary Latham in Bell Gardens, California on Tuesday, July 10, 1951 and were married for 61 years.
James served in the United States Air Force as a medic. He was a police office in Vernon, California and a Security Officer for Airajet. James was also a Special Agent of the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma. James and wife Mary were the sole caregivers for their beloved son Kevin for the past 33 years; they were always ready to help someone who needed the use of the van that was designed to transport Kevin. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. But most of all he loved to get together with family about the olden days.
Mr. Dancer is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; son, Kevin Dancer of the home; brother, Jack Dancer of Stillwater, Oklahoma; grandson, James Aaron Dancer and wife Jaimie of Plano, Texas; great grandchildren, Zachary Gervenak of Plano, Texas and James William Dancer II of Plano, Texas; daughter-in-law, Robin Dancer of Denison, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Mr. Dancer was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Bessie Dancer; son, James David Dancer; brother, David Earl Dancer; sister, Mary Elizabeth “Peaches” Jones.
A Funeral Service in honor of James will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. James Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Boswell, Oklahoma.
