Betty Jane Cotner a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the age of 88. She was born in New Boston, Texas on Saturday, September 13, 1924 to James Wilson and Gladys Marie (Ball) Gregg. Betty and Tim C. Cotner were married on Sunday, December 21, 1947 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Betty and Tim were married for 65 years.
She proudly served her country in the United States Navy during WWII. Betty committed her time and efforts as a Campfire Leader when her daughters were young. She worked alongside her husband in their family business, The Cotner Gin. Betty loved playing bridge and played several times a week. Most of all Betty loved her family.
Betty is survived by her son, Gregg Cotner and wife Maggie of Swaffham Prior, England; daughters, Carla Jordan and husband Odell of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Sarah Schild and husband Jeff of Murphy, Texas and Pam Lowry and husband Bill of Sherman, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gladys Gregg; husband, Tim Cotner; sister, Lou Dawson; brother, Jim Gregg.
A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Fr. Jim Blagg officiating.
The family of Betty would like to suggest in lieu of flowers a memorial be made in her memory to the Macular Degeneration Foundation Research Fund, PO Box 531313, Henderson, Nevada 89053.
