OKLAHOMA CITY – Jack Burrage, a Durant High School senior, served as a page for Rep. Cody Maynard, R-Durant, at the Oklahoma State Capitol February 5-8 during the second session of the 59th Legislature.

Manslaughter charged filed for domestic dispute death

A Mead man has been charged with first-degree manslaughter following the investigation into the death of a woman last year. Sixty-six-year-old Richard Booker is accused of causing the death of Amanda Welch, 39, during an incident of domestic abuse that happened on April 28, 2023.

School board recognizes choir members

Senior members of the Durant High School Choir were recognized during a recent Durant Board of Education meeting. The board approved a request by choir instructor Heather McNeill to take 13 choir students and nine sponsors to Denver, Colorado, to attend the SWACDA National Honor Choirs and Conference Feb.

Durant sales tax passes, Silo school bond fails

Durant voters approved an extension of the city’s half cent sales tax while a Silo Schools bond failed during last week’s election. According to election returns from the Bryan County Election Board, the sales tax passed by 69.95 percent, 738 votes, compared to 30.05 percent, 317 votes opposed.
