Polk reaches 4th state wrestling tourney

Senior Addison Polk qualified for the state wrestling tournament for the fourth straight year as the lone Durant grappler to reach the 2024 event despite several picking up regional victories. Polk was a third place finisher at 105 pounds in the girls regional and will go into this weekend’s state tournament in Oklahoma City with a 31-5 record.

Calera sweeps Colbert for 2A district titles

Strong first half starts propelled Calera to a sweep of rival Colbert for the Class 2A district championship on Saturday night. The 12th ranked Lady Bulldogs steadily pulled away in the opener to topple the visiting Lady Leopards, 60-38, while improving to 23-2 on the season.

Lions drop Senior Night pair to Tulsa Rogers

Durant basketball teams wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of tough losses to Tulsa Rogers on Senior Night. In the opener, the Lady Lions had a pair of opportunities to take the lead in the final minute but were unable to convert in a 50-45 defeat.

Silo splits 3A district finals with Hugo

Silo girls notched their second victory in a week over Hugo while the Rebels fell to the perennial powers on the boys side in Class 3A district championship action last week. The Lady Rebels scored a 58-51 triumph over the visitors to improve to 1511 on the season while the Silo boys were on the short end of a 68-47 count.

Durant trio signs football scholarship offers

Three members of the 2023 Durant Lion football team signed college scholarships on National Signing Day last week to continue their careers at the next level. Senior offensive linemen Carson Allivand and Tucker Dry were joined by wide receiver Kaydon Mimms in inking pacts with NCAA Division II programs.

Savage Storm add 40-player signing class

Over 40 football additions will join the Southeastern football ranks this fall as part of the Savage Storm’s 2024 recruiting class, including a handful of local products. In total, Coach Bo Atterberry’s latest class will once again be heavy on the front line where 10 offensive linemen and eight defensive linemen head the class of newcomers.

SE baseball posts second weekend sweep

For the second weekend in a row it wasn’t always pretty but the Southeastern baseball team was able to break out the brooms for a second straight series sweep of a northern opponent. This time around it was Newman University of Kansas as the opponent as the Savage Storm concluded the season-opening homestand with a 6-1 record.

Durant drops District 5A-4 contests

A couple of close calls came up short for the Durant basketball teams during a rough week in the stretch run of District 5A-4 action. The Lady Lions looked like they might have a win sewn up against Holland Hall but a buzzer-beating three pointer provided the dagger in a 50-49 loss.

Calera, Silo garner splits in regular season finale

Calera and Silo each split regular season finale matchups on Monday night heading into the playoffs which begin for each this weekend. The Lady Bulldogs posted a 56-48 win against Lone Grove while the boys dropped a 57-31 verdict. Silo boys, meanwhile, dropped Class 4A Harrah, 63-43, but the Lady Rebels came up on the short end of a 46-37 decision.
