Despite being a multi-year standout for the Durant Lady Lions, Sawyer Strange sailed a bit under college radars while putting up solid numbers. Strange helped push the Lady Lions to the Class 5A State Tournament each of her seasons in garnering All-District recognition, and in the process drew the attention of new Northeast Texas Community College coach Haley Colwell.

Coming off rough performances on the road, the Silo Rebels returned home last week with solid outings against Class 3A heavyweight Bethel, splitting a pair of games. The Lady Rebels pushed the seventh-rated visitors before falling 40-30 while the Rebels made a late charge to forge a 5348 victory to close out the pre-Christmas schedule.

Lions take 3 top All-District football awards

Coming off their best season finish since 2016 on the gridiron, the Durant Lions captured three top awards while 10 seniors were selected to the District 5A-3 All-District squad. Jaylon Saxon was recognized as the league Safety of the Year while Carson Allivand was tabbed Lineman of the Year and Braylen Lyday earned the Kicker of the Year honor.
