The best offensive inning of the season for the Durant Lions threatened defending district champ Sapulpa but the Lions dropped a wild 17-12 decision at home last week. In the second district meeting between the two, the Lions fell 10-2 on the road and wrapped up the week by falling 5-2 to Madill in a non-district encounter.

Wrestler Polk recognized at school board meeting

Durant High School senior wrestler Addison Polk was recognized during a Monday meeting of the Durant Board of Education. Polk is a four-time state qualifier in wresting and at the recent awards banquet, she was presented Outstanding Wrestler and Jared Pierce Teammate awards.

Durant boys 5A runner-up in state powerlifting

Durant edged rival McAlester but came up just short in the overall Class 5A standings, finishing as powerlifting state runner-up in the recent state finals held in El Reno. The Lions tallied 46 team points, wrapping up only behind state champ Grove’s 59 tally, while slipping past McAlester by a point after being bested by the Buffaloes in regional competition.

DHS soccer sweeps Atoka, back home Friday

Both Durant soccer squads recorded victories over Atoka while the Lady Lions dropped three decisions against powerful tournament opponents to wrap up the pre-Spring Break portion of the schedule. The Lady Lions blanked Atoka, 7-0, but found the going tough in the prestigious Collinsville Tournament in dropping a 4-1 verdict to Oologah, 1-0 against Metro Christian and 5-1 versus Noble in 60-minute contests.

Bruins blank Rock Creek in unbeaten week

Ninth-ranked Caddo blasted county rival Rock Creek and also bested a pair of other Class A state contenders during a strong week of baseball action. The Bruins blanked Rock Creek, 11-0, in the initial game of the week and then headed to western Oklahoma to stop 10th rated Arapaho-Butler in a 7-1 win before toppling 14th ranked Hydro-Eakly, 7-2 while upping their record to 7-1 on the season.
