Bryan County Commissioners approved an agreement with Theorem architecture to design a new building for Bryan County offices.

During a recent meeting, Commissioners Scott Goad, Tony Simmons and Brandon Carr approved the $157,100 agreement with Theorem LLC for architecture design for a building to be constructed at 301 N. Fourth Ave. Action on this had previously been tabled to check with the auditor to make sure it did not need to go through the bidding process and commissioners said the auditor informed them it did not.

Commissioners approved a contract in May 2023 to purchase the property. The current building on the site will be torn down and a new one constructed to house county offices, including the District Attorney’s Office that is presently located in the old Plaza movie theater, a building that needs renovation.

The meeting room for county commissioners, presently in the courthouse annex, will also be located in the new building.

Inotheraction, commissioners voted to advertise for bids to sell the old Federal Building at 224 W. Evergreen St. This building had previously been donated to the county by The Choctaw Nation and commissioners planned to renovate it for county offices until learning it would be cost prohibitive due to the large amount of Asbestos that would have to be removed.

No action was taken on appointing someone to the Bryan County Excise Board where there is a vacancy due to the recent death of Charles Calhoun, who served on the board for 17 years. Commissioners have a possible candidate for the position and will discuss this again in an upcoming meeting.
