Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian did not draw an opponent during election filings that ended last Friday.

Christian was first elected in 2016 and he was reelected in 2020.

Before being elected sheriff, Christian served 25 years as an Oklahoma State Trooper and spent the last part of those years assigned to the United States Marshal Service hunting down the most dangerous criminals in America and bringing them to justice.

Christian said he is honored and humbled for the opportunity to continue serving as sheriff for another four years.

“It has been a privilege to work alongside the dedicated law enforcement officers in our community, and I am proud of the progress we have made together,” Christian wrote. “Throughout my time in office, I have been devoted to ensuring the safety and well-being of each and every one of you. I believe that by building a team of outstanding law enforcement professionals, we can better serve our community and make Bryan County a safer place for all. I am committed to upholding the values of integrity, professionalism, and compassion in all that we do. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to protect and support the citizens of Bryan County.

“Thank you for your trust and support. I look forward to the continued partnership as we strive to make our community a better place for everyone.”

In other candidate filings, Justin Boone and Ricky Simmons filed for Bryan County Commissioner District No. 2. That seat is currently held by longtime commissioner Tony Simmons, who is retiring.

Lacy Allred and Elizabeth Phelps filed for Bryan County Clerk, a position currently held by Tammy Reynolds, who also is retiring. Allred is currently a county clerk deputy.

All candidates are Republicans so the election will be decided in the June 18 primary.

Stacey Canant was the only one to file for Bryan County Court Clerk. Canant has been a court clerk deputy for years and current court clerk Donna Alexander is retiring.
