DHS track places at Atoka, Ada meets

Durant’s high school track squad took the challenge of split squad competitions last week as one group competed at Atoka and the other in Ada with a number of medalists for each.

At the Atoka meet, Durant had three individual titlists led by Laila Ahmed in the girls’ high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches. She also just missed taking top honors in the 100 hurdles, placing second with a time of 17.72 seconds.

The Lady Lion tandem of Grace Emert, Skyla Conditt, Raelynn Clark and Leah Robison finished fourth in the sprint relay at 55.15 seconds with Robison, Emert, Conditt and Judi Free teaming for a fourth place showing in the 1600-meter relay at 4:49.86.

Leading the way for the Durant boys were Damien Almos with a 110 hurdles title at 17.05 seconds and Eric Williams in the 300 hurdles with a mark of 45.33 seconds.

The Lions ran to three strong relay finishes as well topped by the 1600 relay unit of Justin Smith, Daltry Barker, Spencer Lee and Almos, who clocked in third at 3:46.58.

Durant added a fifth place mark of 48.1 seconds in the sprint relay behind the grouping of Smith, Williams, Owen Madison and Barker. The 800 relay foursome of Smith, Williams, Madison and Almos also posted a fifth place time of 1:37.82.

The Durant girls unit placed second as a team at the Ada Invitational, claiming four event title marks.

Amira Woods won the 200 meters in 25.02 seconds and the 400 meters in 58.25. Avery Sager claimed the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:31.82 and added another personal top time of 5:40.81 in fin- ishing runner-up in the 1600 meters.

The Lady Lions’ 800-meter relay unit of Iyana Wilson, Xakayla Cox, Kaitlen Rush and Woods ran to gold as well in breaking the tape in 1:47.08.

Wilson, Cox, Rush and Jamiah Allen combined for a third place mark of 53.4 seconds in the sprint relay while the 1600 relay unit of Allen, Woods, Cox and Sager was also third in 4:21.40.

Durant’s boys ended eighth in the team standings fueled by Kaydon Mimms’ second place time of 15.26 in the 110 hurdles and runner-up effort in the 300 hurdles at 39.91.

Aiden Sager checked in third in the 400 meters by posting a mark of 51.93 seconds.

The Durant big man relay team took third place in each meet with the Atoka grouping coming from Lillian Stillwell, Kaden Reed, Matthew Nichols and Nathan Dixon. The Ada tandem included Cooper Hall, Dylan Boren, Emma Gardner and Hunter Romero.
