DHS track places high at Bridge Creek, Plainview

A busy week for the Durant High track teams resulted in several high finishes in track meets at Bridge Creek and Plainview.

The Lady Lions posted a runner-up team showing at Plainview while the Lions took third in the meet.

Durant’s varsity returns to action Friday at Ada with the junior varsity competing at Atoka. They’ll host their annual track meet at the DHS track on Tuesday.

At Bridge Creek, the Lady Lions had a handful of placers as well as all three relay teams.

Amira Woods led the charge by winning the 200 meters in a time of 25.74 seconds with Laila Ahmed capturing the high jump title at 5 feet, 2 inches.

Ahmed added a third place mark of 18.08 in the 100 hurdles and Avery Sager was second in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:42.04.

The 1600-meter relay grouping of Kaitlen Rush, Woods, Xakayla Cox and Sager finished second in 4:24.38, the 800-meter foursome of Iyana Wilson, Cox, Rush and Woods checked in third at 1:52.86 and the 3200-meter squad of Sager, Laynee Emert, Judi Free and Kyra Dry also placed third with a time of 11:43.26.

Durant’s boys boasted an individual and relay title at Bridge Creek, led by the 1600 relay unit of Kaydon Mimms, Madison Roper, Daltry Barker and Aiden Sager, which garnered a first place time of 3:39.21.

Mimms was also first in the 110 hurdles at 15.79 seconds and the 300 hurdles by posting a mark of 42.05 seconds. He also checked in second in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 22.92.

There were several more top 3 medalists at Plainview with the Lady Lions getting a first place effort of 24.53 seconds from Woods to claim the 200-meter crown as well as the sprint relay grouping of Wilson, Cox, Rush and Woods grabbing the championship by notching a time of 52.14 seconds.

The 800-meter relay squad of Wilson, Cox, Rush and Woods finished second at 1:47.53, the 1600 relay foursome of Jamiah Allen, Woods, Leah Robison and Avery Sager checked in third in 4:18.76 and the 3200 unit of Sager, Emert, Free and Allen was third by clocking an 11:17.41.

Sager chipped in a third place effort of 2:36.19 in the 800 meters and Ahmed took second in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.

Mimms scored two more individual gold medals at Plainview, winning the 110 hurdles with a personal best clocking of 15.07 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 40.53.

Aiden Sager also added a championship in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.90.

The Lions were second in the 800 relay as the tandem of Braylen Lyday, Sager, Jaylon Saxon and Mimms tallied a time of 1:31.02.
