Achille residents approved a onepercent sales tax proposition to fund improvements to the town.
According to election returns from the April 1 elections, 54.17 percent, 13 votes, were cast for the proposition. There were 11 votes opposed, 45.83 percent.
According to the ballot, 50 percent of it will be used for building maintenance and upkeep, 25 percent for vehicles and maintenance and the remaining 25 percent will go toward an operating budget for emergency management.
In other elections that day, Jared Branscum, Crystal Mays and Kathy Wingo Keirsey were elected to Bokchito Town Council. Voters chose three of four candidates and Branscum received 31.19 percent, Mays 24.77 percent and Keirsey received 22.94 percent. Candidate Randy D. Chandler received 21.10 percent.
Calera Council also had an election with voters choosing two out of three candidates. Bobby Dooney was elected with 38.05 percent of the votes and Jake Trujillo and Jennifer M. Ballew were tied with each receiving 70 votes, 30.97 percent.
According to the Bryan County Election board, there will be a meeting that is to be determined that there will be a tie breaker for Trujillo and Ballew by drawing a name out of a hat.
