American courts show contempt for women

Two years ago, the Supreme Court decided that women have no agency over their own reproduction. Who do these judges think they are?

Our legislators in Oklahoma, and our “justice” system at all levels have made laws for a complicated process they know nothing about. Did they consider how very many pregnancies spontaneously abort in the first trimester? (www.sciencealert.com/ meta-analysis-finds-majority-ofhuman- pregnancies-end-in-miscarriage- bio) Abortion is a natural process. Yet nature cannot abort all defective fetal tissue. Problems can become apparent well into the third trimester.

Should a baby continue to be carried if it will live a few days of agonizing pain before dying? Any prospective mother should be entitled to decide. But no. Our ideologically blinded legislators refuse to acknowledge reality or use common sense.

Natural abortion can occur without the woman knowing it is happening, or she may need emergency medical help to expel the remnants of the miscarriage.

Miscarriages are common, but related health care is not. Uninformed lawmakers are killing women and driving doctors away, and legislators must surely know it.

If all men (meaning all persons) are created equal, none of our legislators or judges is morally superior to one woman facing all the conflicting moral dilemmas that an unexpected pregnancy can impose. Contingencies differ in every pregnancy, every time.

This is not a question for the government, but a personal, individual decision.

Women are full moral agents with the capacity to make the thorniest decisions. Each of us has a conscience that we trust more than we trust depraved politicians and corrupt judges.

When women are denied freedom of conscience, the harm also falls on children, families, and communities.

Legislators discount the majority opinion of the people they represent, and even put their medical judgment above that of physicians, at their peril. Such hubris, such excessive pride, will surely bring their downfall. It is time to tell them to go back home and do their homework.

Women need full intellectual, emotional, and moral authority in all areas traditionally reserved for men. We have proved ourselves capable. We need this authority to protect ourselves, our children, each other, and the health of our communities.

This is a call for all American women and all men who respect women to vote Democratic in November.

We know from reviewing Project 2025 that the Republicans will intensify their war against women’s autonomy, civil rights, environmental protections, public education, and provisions for young children.

(No more food stamps, free lunches, or Head Start. Let those little takers learn to fend for themselves.)

The Republicans have failed all of us who want to defend democracy. They have outright stated that democracy just does not work anymore. They want to give power over to the President. And they have thousands of people lined up who will take an oath of loyalty—to Trump, not the Constitution.

Thankfully, the Democrats have a deep bench of talented people working in the wings.

Democrats have been successful in the past delivering what they say they will: jobs, health care, education, and reproductive rights.

Who do the extreme Supreme judges who do Trump’s bidding think they are? They must mistakenly believe they’re doing good work for Trump, God and the Roman Catholic Church.

Or they believe they ARE God and therefore unaccountable.
