The 21st Annual Choctaw Nation Art Show opened to the public Saturday, Aug. 29 with more works by more artists than any previous year. Also, visitors can select a favorite in show.
WHAT: Works for the 21st Annual Choctaw Art Show are entered in the categories of Basketry, Beadwork, Drawing & Painting, Graphics & Photography, Jewelry, Pottery, Sculpture, and more. There are juried pieces by 141 adult and six youth artists accepted into the competition. Winners will be announced on opening day of the show. Many of the artworks will be for purchase.
Visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece. The Okla’s Choice Award and $500 will be given to the artist whose work receives the most votes.
WHEN: The exhibit can then be viewed Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 10.
WHERE: The Choctaw Cultural Center, 1919 Hina Hanta Way in Durant. The Choctaw Nation Art Show will be located in the gallery of the Koi Chito Theater.
WHO: Choctaw artists had works selected from across Oklahoma and seven other states.
Everyone is invited to view the show.
HOW: The show is free for viewing by all visitors. Regular ticket prices apply for entry to the permanent exhibits of the Cultural Center. Admission is complimentary for Choctaw Tribal Members and those with Cultural Center memberships. The Champuli Café and the Hvshi Gift Store will be open as usual.
