Durant Lady Lions basketball coach Will Robinson was posthumously named the Educator of the Year during the Mid Continental Broadcasting Excellence in Education awards banquet last week at Roadhouse 77.
Coach Robinson and his daughter Clara died during a Christmas Eve car accident in Sherman, Texas.
Acting head coach Tony Robinson, who served three years as his son’s assistant, was initially reluctant to continue coaching after Will’s death. The team later reached the 5A state tournament.
In addition, Will’s parents, Beth and Tony Robinson were singled out for their contributions to the Durant school district and the community following their son’s and granddaughter’s tragic deaths. Will’s widow Kristen, and sister Taylor Robinson, also were present.
