The inaugural Choctaw Film Festival at the Choctaw Cultural Center in Durant will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Admission is free and the featured artist is awardwinning filmmaker Mark Williams, who won Best Feature Documentary for “The Journey of Tiak Hikiya Ohoyo” at the Fort Smith International Film Festival. His feature film, “Violet,” has won 12 awards. There will be opportunities to ask questions and take photos.

One of the Choctaw Cultural Center’s most anticipated family event helps usher in autumn. Everyone is invited to a free evening at the annual Halloween Stickball Game & Trunk or Treat. Vehicles will be filled with candy and other fun treats for young visitors. There will be games for prizes and a youth costume contest for various ages from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. After dark, teams of championship Choctaw stickball players in costumes will pit glowing sticks against each other. The Choctaw Cultural Center is located at 1919 Hina Hanta Way in Durant. Activities will be held in the Cultural Center parking lot and on the lighted Stickball Field.

Oct. 28

The Bryan County Democratic Party (BCDP) meeting will be held at 5:30 pm Tuesday, October 28 at the Donald W Reynolds Library in Durant. The program will be presented by Stacy Gorley, OK Congressional District 2 Chair. All are welcome. For more info: bryancodemocrats@gmail.com
