Five Durant High School seniors are enlisting in the military and there was a signing day at the high school last week.
Jillian Feltman and Alondra Gamero have signed with the Army National Guard. Braeden Emert has enlisted in the U.S. Army and Anthony Rosarivas has enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Spencer Lee was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
DHS Principal Cheryl Conditt spoke and she noted that the enlistees were among those honored during a senior awards ceremony the night before.
“As all of you prepare to go in your separate ways after graduation, many of you are choosing to go to school, enter the workforce or both,” Conditt said. “Some of you can’t wait to get out of town, right? That’s pretty normal. But whatever you choose to do, we want you to know that we wish you the best of success and we wish you happiness in everything.
“However, today, we’re gathered here to recognize five seniors that have made the decision to join the military and began their careers with the armed forces. These five seniors are making a total commitment to serve and protect the United States from harm, whether it is in the form of foreign or domestic kind. They are prepared to do whatever is asked of them.”
