J127 Ministry is having a fabric sale from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 31 and 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at 717 N. 49th Ave. in Durant.
Toni Kilpatrick Stiefer said the fabric is from the estate of her sister, Dr. Rebecca Kilpatrick Davis, who was a professor at Adult Literacy and she loved to sew and make quilts.
“So, as most quilters do, she developed quite a stash of fabric before she had a lot of time to sew,” Stiefer said. “When she died, the fabric came to me and her husband and I decided that the best place to use the fabric would be to sell it and give the money to J127. The reason for giving it to J127 is that Rebecca supported two causes as she did her professional and personal life. Adult literacy, which was her teaching field, and literacy for all, and then helping women who’ve been displaced for one reason or another.
“J127 embodies that and we wanted to give the money to them.”
J127 is for young women who have aged out of the foster-care system. It gives them a place to live while also teaching life skills.
“They may need financial literacy skills,” Stiefer said. “They need job skills and all of those things, so that they can become independent.”
According to Stiefer, the sale has the potential to raise several thousand dollars for J127.
“You don’t have to climb mountains to get your hands on new quilt shop quality fabric for $6 a yard,” Stiefer said.
