As a four-year stalwart for the Durant High School soccer team, Mia Ibarra showed tremendous versatility.
She began her career as a goalkeeper before moving to the midfield during her sophomore season. Over the past two years she has helped propel the Lady Lions back to the Class 5A state playoffs each season.
It’s that type of versatility that helped earn Ibarra a scholarship to continue her career at the next level at Murray State College.
“I can play keeper but in the midfield I can look for gaps that the defense has when they shift,” Ibarra commented. “I don’t mind playing anywhere that I’m needed.
“It has always been a dream of mine to go to college and play soccer and going to Murray is a win-win situation. It’s close to home, I get to play soccer, and I am able to be around my parents for two more years. I am planning on getting my associate’s degree in psychology and then transfer to OU.”
At Murray State, Ibarra will join a Lady Aggie program which has qualified for the Region 2 playoffs each of the past three years.
She plans to take her experience at Durant to help continue Murray’s success as well.
“My four years at Durant went by super-fast,” she said. “I’m sad it’s over but am glad to be getting to continue onto the next chapter. They want me as a midfielder but am versatile in a bunch of other spots and can play goalkeeper if I’m needed.”
