Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church hosts pet adoption

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Durant hosted a pet adoption Oct. 5 with the City of Durant animal shelter.

Rhonda Collier, president of Our Saviour’s church counsel, said that every year, the church picks community events to sponsor.

“This year, we decided we wanted to do something for the animals, so we decided to do a pet adoption and pet supply drive,” Collier said. “We’ve done things where we have given donations to Durant Animal Control before, but we wanted to go a little bit further and I got in touch with them and they said, yes, we could sponsor this pet adoption event.”

Donations of pet food, toys and other supplies related to pets were collected during the event.

Pastor Brady Eggleston performed blessings on pets. Two pets were adopted during the event and another was put in foster care with the intention of being adopted. Collier said one more animal was adopted the following Monday.

Our Saviour’s Lutheran and Saint John’s Episcopal churches will be joining together again this year to provide a safe environment for children on Halloween night. They are hosting a trunk or treat from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at Our Saviour’s on the corner of 16th Avenue and Main Street.
