Webinars to be held on ideas to make Durant a stronger town

Citizens often wonder how they can help make their communities more livable and stronger financially? Strong Towns offers a fall webinar series to inform and inspire citizens to do just that. Thanks to DSC and DTOS, everyone is invited to attend the series for free. Everyone can learn about successful ideas used by similar towns across America by joining in a local conversation at noon Thursdays for eight weeks that began Sept. 12.

The series is free and open to the public. Come to one or all eight sessions to explore such topics as new parking strategies, getting kids to school more safely, designing neighborhoods for all ages, and more.

Each program will feature a webinar led by experts offered by the national Strong Towns Academy. The programs seek to help residents “be part of the solution” for the challenges facing their community.

Participants should arrive at the Kiamichi Tech center before noon, as the webinars will begin promptly on the hour. Following the webinar, local participants will discuss and share thoughts and ideas as they relate specifically to Durant and our local preferences.

The series, hosted by the Durant Strong Towns Local Conversation team, is being organized by the Durant Sustainability Coalition and Durant Trails and Open Space organizations.

A similar series was presented last fall.

“The series helped me think differently about some of the issues facing our home town,” said Mike Delloro of Durant Trails and Open Space. “A big focus is on how communities can be more financially resilient and how residents can make their home town stronger by participating in community discussions and collaborating with local officials. The more we learn about how local government works, the better partners we can be.”

Topics to be offered this fall are listed below. Each program starts promptly at noon at the Kiamichi Technology Center, 314 E. Main St, in downtown Durant.

Please plan to arrive by 11:50 to allow time for signing in and finding a seat.
