Early voting has started for primary election

Early voting for the June 18 primary election began Thursday, June 13, and continues Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Bryan County Election Board Office located in the courthouse, 402 W. Evergreen St.

Bryan County Election Board Secretary Kimberly Norris said early voting is open to all voters.

“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board—from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on election day or who want to avoid long lines,” Norris said.

Bryan County District No. 2 voters will be choosing between Ricky Simmons and Justin Boone for District No. 2 county commissioner. Both candidates are Republicans and no one else is running, so this election will determine the winner. Current commissioner Tony Simmons did not file for reelection.

Lacy Allred and Elizabeth Phelps are candidates for Bryan County Clerk. Current county clerk Tammy Reynolds did not file for reelection. This election will also determine the winner.

Calera voters will deciding whether to allow the town clerk/treasurer to be nominated by the mayor with the approval of town council members. Currently, it is an elected position.

Also in the primary, Justin Hornback, J. Brian Bingman and Russell Ray are running for Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18.

Anyone who forgets their voter identification or if their name is not listed in the precinct registry may still cast a provisional vote by signing an affidavit.

Norris said a provisional ballot is sealed in a special envelope and counted after election day, if the voter’s registration information can be verified by the County Election Board. Election results cannot be certified until all provisional ballots have been researched and verified.
