Achille residents to vote on sales tax increase

Municipal elections to be held

Achille residents will be voting on a proposition to increase the town’s sales tax by one percent to fund improvements.

According to the ballot, 50 percent of it would be used for building maintenance and upkeep, 25 percent for vehicles and maintenance and the remaining 25 percent would go toward an operating budget for emergency management.

Municipal elections will also be held and polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.

Durant City Council members Humphrey Miller and Lauran Fuller where unopposed in their reelection bids.

Early voting began March 27 and it continued from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at the Bryan County Courthouse.

The following candidates are on the Tuesday ballot:

Bokchito

Three four-year terms, vote for three Jared Branscum Randy D. Chandler Cathey Wingo Keirsey Crystal Mays

Calera

Two four-year terms, vote for two Jennifer M. Ballew Bobby Dooney Jake Trujillo Boswell Public Schools has two propositions and there is a small number of voters in eastern Bryan County who vote in that district. Proposition No. 1 is a $230,000 bond for constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings. Proposition No. 2 is $125,000 in bonds for transportation equipment.
