Burglary suspect shot in Silo

A suspected burglar was shot when the property owner confronted him and two other suspects, the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were dispatched at 12:41 a.m. Tuesday to a Texas Street residence in Silo after the property owner confronted three people at gunpoint and one of them was shot in the groin area, according to Undersheriff Joey Tucker.

That person was taken to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, and has since been transferred to another hospital.

Tucker said there had been a call the prior evening about a burglary at the same property and that apparently, the suspects came back early the following morning when they were confronted.

The case remains under investigation and additional details were not available at press time Tuesday.

In other news, a Kingston man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 69 two miles south of Kiowa in Atoka County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Twenty-year-old Damon Rowe was driving a Nissan Altima northbound at approximately 4:22 p.m. March 29 when his vehicle departed the roadway to the left, struck a cable barrier and rolled three times. Rowe was flown by AirEvac to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was listed in critical condition at the time of the OHP report.

Rowe, who was was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, according to a report by Trooper Nathan Mullins.

Troopers Cody Enloe, Austin Mass and Trey Roberts assisted in the investigation. The Kiowa Fire Department, Atoka County Sheriff’s Offi ce, Atoka County EMS and Pittsburg County EMS also assisted at the scene.

In other emergency calls, Durant firefighters were dispatched at 6:07 p.m. March 26 to an automobile fire in the southbound lanes of Highway 69/75 south of the Blue River. Upon arrival, the GMC pickup was no longer on fire and the driver said he put out the fire with a bottle of water, according to the report.

There were parts of the engine block on the ground and the pickup appeared to have had a mechanical failure. The pickup had been pulled off the roadway and the driver told firefighters a wrecker was on the way.
