Robert Bailey, the occupant, told firefighters he was in bed when he thought he heard knocking. Upon getting up, he opened the back door and saw that the north side of the carport was on fire. He then went back and grabbed his phone before leaving the house, the report stated.

Firefighters went inside and put out the fire and also hosed down embers leaving the scene at 3:25 that morning. Joseph Hendrix was identified as the owner of the house.
