The Choctaw Cultural Center will help open the spring stickball season by hosting a women’s stickball clinic, the tribe announced.

Advanced registration for Hvpi Tek Toli or “Sisters Playing Ball Together” is required online by April 6. Visit https://chocta.ws/ hvpi-tek-toli.

The clinic is set for Saturday, April 20, and is limited to 50 participants. Check-in is from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The all-day event lasts until 6 p.m. The training will be held at the Stickball Arena of the Choctaw Cultural Center, 1919 Hina Hanta Way, Durant.

“The idea of the clinic is to empower women by focusing on health, wellness, and stickball game skills,” said Yasmine Del Rosario, Choctaw Cultural Center Cultural Program Coordinator.”

The event is open to women stickball players from any tribe and all skill levels age 16 or older. Participants must bring their own sticks as sticks will not be furnished.

“Clinic organizers want to develop skills and prepare women stickball players to become better leaders in their communities,” Del Rosario said.

Admission is complimentary, and the Public Programs Department will be providing lunch, dinner and snacks free for participants.
