Choctaw citizen and wildlife photographer Gene Blackwell will debut his latest exhibition at the Choctaw Cultural Center this spring.
The exhibition titled, Kowi Haiaka Ikwehpowo (Unspoiled Wilderness): Photography from the Round Bottom Ranch, opens Tuesday, April 29 and highlights the natural beauty of Choctaw Country through Blackwell’s lens.
Blackwell grew up in the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma, where his connection to the land and wildlife sparked a lifelong passion for nature photography. His desire to be a good steward of the land inspired his focus on capturing nature in its purest form.
For more than 15 years, Blackwell documented striking scenes from Round Bottom Ranch near Black Fork Creek. The images reflect his deep appreciation for the environment and a keen eye for nature’s unique moments.
The one-of-a-kind images of Kowi Haiaka Ikwehpowo (Unspoiled Wilderness): Photography from the Round Bottom Ranch will be on display through October 18 at the Choctaw Cultural Center, 1919 Hina Hanta Way, Durant. Regular ticket prices apply, with complimentary admission for Choctaw tribal members and cultural center members. Parking is free.
