Colbert exploded early offensively in both contests and rode those fast starts to dominant season-opening wins over Achille in county basketball action last week.
The Lady Leopards cruised to a 78-19 triumph in the first game and Leopards followed by rolling to a 64-16 decision.
Girls
It was a Colbert onslaught from the start as the Lady Leopards forced a plethora of turnovers and cashed those in for easy buckets in a 30-3 first stanza barrage.
Alivia Love was red hot from the perimeter to start, canning four of her six three pointers for the game in the first frame.
The Lady Leopards also got big scoring production from Kaylee Andrews and Alexis Stogner in the first two stanzas as they continued the onslaught with a 24-2 scoring flurry in the second period. Stogner notched 14 points before halftime while Andrews added 12.
Colbert rolled to a 16-6 third quarter advantage before each team pitched in eight in the fourth.
Love and Andrews tallied 22 points apiece in the winning effort for Colbert while Stogner and Kennedy Sullenger also reached double figures with 16 and 12 points respectively. Erica Mitchell scored four and Ava Fowler had two in rounding things out.
Only two Lady Eagles posted points as they were spurred by Izzy Wright’s 14 points, which included three treys. Blair Burgess tacked on five points.
Boys
While not as big a first quarter scoring eruption as the girls’ contest, the Leopards still came out blazing in building a 19-4 bulge through one frame as they rode a balanced attack.
Colbert pushed the lead to 31-12 at the half and then came out gunning once more in the third in notching a 20-4 advantage. The Leopards then scored all 13 points of the final period.
Junior Alex Stogner fueled the scoring charge with 17 points, all of which came in the first three quarters.
The Leopards were well balanced from there as Kyle Peebles pumped in 11, Adrian Clement had nine, Zade Simes scored eight, Rhett Burton notched seven, Koby Bird and Kendall Mouser contributed five apiece with Bryson Moorefield adding the final two.
Cason Shull, Landon Barnhill and Parker Coons scored four points each for Achille, which also got two points from Judd Sorelle, Kayson Gibby, Zentez Guess and Landen Worthington.
