County Assessor Mike Hull retires

Bryan County Assessor Mike Hull retired after a total of 21 years of service in the office and a retirement reception was held for him last week at the Bryan County Courthouse Annex.

Hull was presented a plaque from all elected county officials honoring his service that states, “With heartfelt appreciation, we honor your extraordinary commitment, unwavering dedication and distinguished service as tax assessor for Bryan County, Oklahoma. Your tireless efforts, exceptional leadership and steadfast integrity have left an enduring legacy and signifi cantly enriched the lives of the citizens you served. As you retire, may you take pride in your remarkable achievements and the profound impact you have made.”

Hull said he felt it was time to pass the torch to a new generation of assessors that are doing really well.

“My big reason for retirement is family and moving closer to them,” Hull said. “I’ve got three granddaughters that live in the Ellis County, Texas, area and we’re going to be heading down that way and be close to them.

“We’re moving to the Waxahachie, Texas, area to enjoy being the family and be a part-time pops or full-time pops but taking care of them part time. I’ll be working, but will do something just a little lighter that I can kind of fill some of my time and keep myself busy and just enjoy it. I’m looking for something that may fit more of some of my hobbies that I love to do as my part time and just enjoy it.”

Hull was elected assessor in 2018 and assumed duties in January 2019. He first went to work for County Assessor Glendel Rushing in 1988 for two years as an office deputy and he came back to the office in 2006.

He said he will miss the people and that he loves the people of Bryan County.

“We’re seeing a lot of growth and as I said when I was running for office, I still feel like the future’s really bright for Bryan County and there’s a lot going on and so I will always keep my thumbs on the progress that’s being made here,” Hull said. “I’ve got a lot of good friends and I’ll miss all of them. I just have appreciated working with everybody and interacting with the people of Bryan County.”

Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd was among those who attended Hull’s retirement reception.

“I do want to commend Mike on 21 years of service for the county as well as being sworn in as an officer January 2019,” Byrd said. “So, you were sworn into office the same month that I was sworn in as state auditor. So, we share that together but I do thank Mike for his service to the state. I don’t think people realize everything county assessors have been through in the last few years with valuations, dealing with COVID, the market that has just been so hard to nail down, but we appreciate Mike and everything he’s done for Bryan County as well as the State of Oklahoma. He’s been a leader in this state and I wish him the very best in retirement and hope you still stay around.”

District 2 County Commissioner Justin Boone said, “We want to thank you for your service and we want to wish you all the best in your retirement and we’re going to miss you buddy.”
