County officials sworn in

Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian, District 2 Commissioner Justin Boone, Court Clerk Stacy Canant and County Clerk Lacy Allred were sworn in Jan. 2 by Bryan County Associate District Judge Abby Rogers.

County and court clerk deputies also were sworn in.

Christian, who did not have an opponent last year, is in his third term.

“With unwavering dedication and a commitment to our community, Sheriff Christian has consistently worked to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents,” the sheriff’s office said, in a social media post. “His leadership and vision continue to inspire us all.”

Boone is beginning his first term as District 2 commissioner, an office he was elected to last year. He replaces longtime Commissioner Tony Simmons, who retired.

“It’s been 23 years since I went to work for the county,” Boone said, in a social media post after the ceremony. “Today, I was sworn in as the new commissioner for Bryan Co District 2. It is an honor to serve the fine people in this district. I couldn’t have made it here without God and my wife standing by my side all these years which is why I wanted her by my side as I took my oath.

“I also used my dad’s Bible. He’s been gone six years now but he was with me every step of the way as well. Guaranteed. It will now reside on my desk. My mom and Gary was tremendous support as always and I always know I can count on them for anything. My kids also played huge roles in this as well and I have four of the best a man could have. Lastly, the hands of District 2 are second to none. I am blessed beyond measure to have them in my corner. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. My door is open and I’m here to help.”

During a meeting of Bryan County commissioners after the ceremony, commissioners voted for Boone to be chairman of the board. Brandon Carr is vice chair.

Boone’s wife, Cathy Boone, was sworn in as a Bryan County Court Clerk’s Office deputy.

“I am so excited and extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Mrs. Boone said.

Canant did not have an opponent when she filed for court clerk position last year and she replaces Donna Alexander, who retired after serving the court clerk’s office 39 years with 10 of those years as court clerk.

Allred was elected county clerk last year and she replaces Tammy Reynolds, who also retired after serving the county since 1996, first in the assessor’s office and then she moved to the county clerk’s office in 2007. She had been county clerk since 2010.

“I look forward to serving the people and a bright future,” Allred said.
