Durant Sustainability Coalition announces Homegrown Art Fest

The Durant Sustainability Coalition will host the Homegrown Art Fest Oct. 10-11, bringing artists, makers, nature activities and a downtown art experience together for a free, two-day celebration in Durant.

The festival will be based at VPAC & Centre Gallery, 1614 N. 1st Ave., with additional activities extending into Historic Downtown Durant and participating Main Street District businesses. Art will be on display at participating downtown locations Sept. 28 through Oct. 11, giving visitors an opportunity to explore local businesses while discovering work by area artists.

Saturday’s festival activities run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include an art show, makers market, live portrait doodles, the downtown art crawl and nature walks at the Crooked Smile Trail. The art crawl and scavenger hunt will encourage participants to visit participating stores and shops in the Historic Downtown Main Street District, with a bonus stop at the Magnolia Mile Art Alley.

Participating art-crawl locations include Among the Pages, Dapper & Divine, Holistic Pelvis, Integration Station, Kopper Kettle, Lost Street Brewing Co., The Dressing Room, The Sweet Spot, Two of a Kind Thrift and Zellie Blue. Visitors can follow the festival map to locate participating businesses and art displays.

The scavenger hunt takes place Oct. 10, with a raffle drawing scheduled for Oct. 11. Sunday’s festival program runs from 2 to 4 p.m. and includes the art show, an artist reception, an awards presentation and the raffle drawing.

“Homegrown Art Fest is designed to connect creativity, community and the places that make downtown Durant special,” the Durant Sustainability Coalition said in announcing the event. “By combining an art show with a downtown crawl, makers market, nature activities and a scavenger hunt, the festival invites residents and visitors to experience Durant in new ways.”
