A dryer caught fire at Spin Cycle on Sept. 26, according to the Durant Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the laundromat at 3131 N. First Ave. at 1:28 p.m. and when they arrived, employees had used dry chemical fire extinguishers on the fire, but there was still smoke emitting from it, according to a DFD report.
Firefighters sprayed water on the dryer to put out the smoke and smoldering laundry that was inside was carried outside and hosed down.
Pressure fans were used to clear the building of smoke and an employee said a customer noticed smoke coming from the dryer and after an attempt to put out the fire, the employee dialed 911. The employee told a firefighter the dryer’s lent box is cleaned twice a day, the report stated.
The fire department was dispatched at 1:34 a.m. Sept. 22 to 393 Rolling Wood Hills Drive about a fire on the back deck. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a fire underneath the porch and the homeowner was trying to extinguish it with a garden hose, according to the DFD report. Firefighters hosed down the rest of the fire.
The homeowners told firefighters they were asleep when they heard a popping sound and upon looking out the window, they saw flames on the back porch. A mosquito- repellent candle had been used that the owners thought was extinguished, according to the report.
