Man charged with murder for traffic death

A man accused of causing a crash that claimed the life of a Bennington firefighter has been charged with seconddegree murder and other felony charges.

Thirty-nine-year-old Terrius L. Purvey of Gainesville, Texas, also was charged last week with aggravated DUI, DUI - great bodily injury and falsely personate another to create liability.

Authorities said Purvey was intoxicated on Dec. 21 when his vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 70 at Western Hills Drive in Durant and struck another vehicle head-on, killing Levi Milam, 25, who was a passenger in the other car driven by 33-year-old Casy L. Jordan of Bokchito.

Purve y was not injured and he was arrested at the scene. Jordan also was not injured and two passengers, one in Purvey’s car and the other in Jordan’s vehicle, were injured, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

During an intitial court appearance on Dec. 22, bond for Purvey was set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing conference was scheduled for Feb. 18.

Milam was a firefighter with the Bennington Volunteer Fire Department and a funeral was held for him Saturday with burial following in Bokchito Cemetery.
