Mead residents to vote on OG&E franchise

Mead residents will be heading to the polls on Aug. 12 to vote on the OG&E Franchise election.

A ballot states the proposition is to grant Oklahoma Gas and Electric the right to produce, transmit and distribute electricity within the town and to sell electricity therein for all purposes for which it may be used to the town, its residents and the public, plus the right to construct, maintain and operate a system of poles, wires, conduits and other facilities and equipment on streets, alleys and public grounds.

If approved by voters, the franchise would last for 25 years. Trustees for The Town of Mead approved an ordinance for the election last April.

The Bryan County Election Board said July 18 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in this election.

Election Board Secretary Kimberly Norris said applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, July 18. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the Aug. 12 Election. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.

Registered voters who have moved to Bryan County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in Bryan County. If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.

Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections. You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries have applications available upon request.

Norris also is encouraging all registered voters to verify their voting information using the State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal.

“If it’s been a while since you’ve voted or you’ve recently moved or changed your name, now is the time to make sure your registration information is up to date,” Norris said. “We want everyone to have a positive experience at the polls.”

The OK Voter Portal can be found at oklahoma.gov/ elections/ovp.
