Methodist Vacation Bible School raises funds for Feeding Hope

The recent Vacation Bible School by Durant First United Methodist Church raised funds for Feeding Hope and a check was presented to the organization last week.

Mardi Dunn, Children’s Ministry Director at Durant UMC, said the children raised more than $250 which was matched for a total of $500.

“We had an offering every day during Vacation Bible School and our children brought a little bit over $250 to donate so Children’s Ministry matched that,” Dunn said.

Feeding Hope, formerly called Families Feeding Families, has been providing meals to the community for 20 years and they serve food on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Keithley Park.

“We sure hope that this works well for our community and Feeding Hope is a great outreach for helping our families in need,” Dunn said.

Methodist church members also helped serve food on Aug. 8, which they do at least monthly and they also donate food.

Keri Juarez, executive director of Feeding Hope, is pleased with the donation.

“We’re super excited that First United Methodist Church encourages their children to donate and to show them what it is about in the community to go out and to raise up a child in the correct way and just encourage them to see outside of the walls,” Juarez said. “We’re just thankful that they were able to gather this and just lead them in the right direction.”

A building for Feeding Hope is being completed at 424 E. Florida St.

Feeding Hope will be serving from this building once it is completed. Juarez said plumbing has been finished and contractors were installing electricity last week.

“We will be serving our first meal for Thanksgiving there and after that, we hope to at least be serving out there,”Juarez said. “We may not have a full kitchen yet but right now, we’re raising funds to get the essentials for the kitchen.”
