The Mission hosts summer bash

The Mission - I’m Possible Inc. hosted its second-annual summer bash Saturday at Carl Albert Park to raise funds that will help the organization assist the homeless in the community.

“It’s just a fun community event to also raise funding for The Mission so we can continue receiving, rebuilding and returning (to the community) our neighbors experiencing homelessness,” said Marissa Bancewicz, executive director of The Mission.

The event included a silent auction, bounce house obstacle course and barbecue cookoff. Snow cones were served and First United Bank grilled hamburgers.

There was a weenie dog race and costume contest. Beverly Baker’s dog, “Tuttie,” won the race and Trinity Larkins’ dog, “Dolly,” won the costume contest.

Bancewicz is pleased with the participation.

“This year, it seems to be bigger than last year,” she said.

The Mission - I’m Possible Inc. was founded by Michelle Chester and it opened in March 2021 at 4310 W. University Boulevard. The Mission assists the homeless by helping them rebuild their lives and returning them to the community as independent and contributing members of society.

Bancewicz has was hired as executive director in January 2023 after Chester stepped down and moved to California. The Mission served 176 people in 2023.

“We’ve served 159 people now so far through June,” Bancewicz said.

The amount raised was not available at press time.
