Three Bryan Countians joined a group from Carter County recently for a rally in Ardmore to register opposition to similar actions by the Trump administration: the firing of federal workers, the closing or drastic downsizing of some federal departments, and threats to the social safety net and entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Pictured are Dorothy Varner of Carter County and Pat Bley, Pat Notley, and Sue Clayton of Bryan County. A similar Bryan County rally will be held June 14 in Durant. Photo provided
On June 14, you are invited to the “No Kings” People’s Rally.
The Democratic Party of Bryan County is hosting but the rally is non-partisan.
We will meet from 3—5 p.m. in the parking lot behind Pizza Hut, across from the Social Security Office at 121 S 12th Ave, Durant.
As Democrats and Americans, we welcome you. All of you. We do not care who you voted for in the last election or how you registered to vote, Everyone deserves a voice. We know that many of you are fed up with higher prices, the upcoming slashes to Medicaid, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, Social Security personnel and offices, Veterans Affairs, public education, meals for schoolchildren, and voter rights.
You are welcome to bring your own signs; please keep them family-rated!
The signs we have on hand for you are: Defend Social Security, No Kings, Hands OFF public schools, and No More Tax Breaks for Billionaires.
We believe that blue and red go together and that we need each other.
We trust that goodwill toward our community and each other can bring us together to defend the best of America.
