No students were injured during a collision involving a Silo school bus, the school district said.

The school said in a social media post that bus No. 4 was in an accident Monday afternoon on Highway 70 and that Oklahoma Highway Patrol was on scene.

“All students appear to be unharmed,” the Silo School District said. “The OHP is asking for Silo School to transport all passengers to Alliance Health for pick up by parents. The School Resource Officer will be on site with the students for sign out by parents.”

OHP investigated the crash that also involved another vehicle.

In other emergency incidents, Durant firefighters put out an attic fire Saturday at 1225 Melissa Drive.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was emitting from the eaves on one side of the home. The homeowner told firefighters no one was in the house and that the fire was in the attic, according to a DFD report. Firefighters entered the attic through the garage and saw thick smoke and flames that were then extinguished.

Firefighters also hosed down the fire from the roof. The cause of the fire was under investigation at the time of the report and it caused an estimated $75,000 to property and contents valued at $500,000.

Also Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to a controlled burn that became out of control at 3456 Sandstone Road. When firefighters arrived, approximately 20 acres of a wooded area were on fire, according to the report. Firefi ghters used backpack fire suppression systems plus leaf blowers and rakes to create a fire line to control the fire. Brush trucks had limited access to the fire and bystanders loaned firefighters a fourwheeler to help reach the fire.

Once all firefighters were on scene, the fire line was completed and the fire was extinguished.
