Okie Christmas Toy run raises money for Toys for Tots

The annual Okie Christmas Toy Run to benefi t Bryan County Toys for Tots was a huge success with organizers saying it provided many toys to children.

LoJo Reid, a member of Three Valley Riders motorcycle club and a board member for the toy run, was pleased with the success of the event. Last year, $42,000 was raised and this year, they collected $55,000, which was their goal, and 100 percent of proceeds benefit The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots and Durant Lions Club Toy Box.

“This has been our seventh year and as everyone knows this is a really bad year for everyone,” Reid said. “We want to make sure that there is no child that is left behind so our goal, when we first started this, was for the children that don’t wake up with smiles on their face. So, our goal is to make sure there is not a child in Bryan County that wakes up without a toy.”

Reid expressed excitement about the success of the toy run.

“This year’s fundraising efforts were incredibly successful, allowing the Okie Toy Run to purchase gifts for all children aged 8-16,” Reid said. “We’re excited to continue this tradition annually and ensure that older kids aren’t overlooked during the holiday season.”

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots works with the Durant Lions Club Toy Box to distribute toys and toys were given away last Saturday at the fairgrounds.

In a social media post, Okie Toy Run thanked everyone involved with the event.

“From attending and praying to volunteering, bidding generously, donating, and supporting in countless ways, your kindness has made all the difference,” Okie Toy Run said. “It’s incredibly heartwarming to watch our community come together for these kids. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.

“Being a non-profit with goals and dreams, we are committed to making our community proud. We’ll keep working hard to make next year even bigger and better for the Bryan County kiddos. With an amazing board, volunteers and such strong community support, together we’re truly making a lasting impact.”
