The annual Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics was Saturday morning at Choctaw RV Park with Scott Corbin emceeing the event.

“If you don’t know by now, a Polar Plunge is a fundraising challenge made to an individual or group challenging them to dive into a cold body of water in order to raise money for Special Olympics,” Corbin said. “Each participant collects pledges from family, friends and businesses, and then they take the plunge in the cold water to benefit Special Olympics.”

Local supporters were: The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police, Durant Police Department, Durant Fire Department, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Calera Police Department, Atoka Police Department, Caney Police Department, Atoka County Sheriff’s Office and the Tushka Police Department.

Organizations who had members who took the plunge were: Good Deal Thrift, Durant Police Department, Kiamichi Tech, Choctaw Nation Department of Public Safety and Team Jeffrey’s Sisters. Individuals also participated.

The Tip a Cop event for Special Olympics was also held last week.
