A Silo High school senior has enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard and she was recognized during a recent school assembly.

Bayleigh Bransford is also the school’s valedictorian and she plans to become a military police officer.

Silo High School Principal Jeremy Atwood spoke during the assembly.

“We’ve done a lot of things over the years, you know, we’re well known with our athletic signings and kids going to college and all of those things,” Atwood said. “Those things are all well publicized, but in that last two or three years, we’ve tried to add another little asset to it that people don’t notice very often.

“So, I would like to bring a young lady up here that most of you may not know, but Bayleigh, she has been a part of our high school for three years and last Thursday (March 7), Bayleigh enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard and she told me she was going to do this a number of months ago but it just happened … and she wants to be a military police officer.”

Atwood said Bransford is going to represent Silo and the Oklahoma National Guard as a military police officer.

“She is also our valedictorian of her graduating class so I wanted to publicize her in front of you,” Atwood said.

The announcement was greeted with applause by students.

In a social media post, recruiter McKenna “Mac” Roberts said she cannot wait to see what the future holds for this young lady.

“Another super special swear in for me,” Roberts said. “This recently sworn in soldier has been added to the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Bayleigh Bransford has been so dedicated each and every day. It was a long process, but she held out and persevered.”
